Our client is seeking an ambitious and technically accomplished Associate Civil Engineer to join its London studio. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a senior leadership role within a creative, collaborative consultancy, delivering innovative engineering solutions across a diverse range of sectors.
With at least 8 years’ post-graduate experience, you will bring the technical expertise and commercial awareness to lead projects from concept through to construction. Working closely with the Director, you will oversee design development, review technical work and coordinate with architects, consultants and clients to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.
You will play a key role in developing the civil engineering team, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the continued growth of the practice. From managing project budgets and programmes to identifying new business opportunities, this is a varied role offering the chance to make a real impact.
You will lead the delivery of civil engineering projects, establishing client briefs, technical requirements, scopes of work, fee proposals and deliverables. You will oversee concept and detailed design, tender and construction stages, ensuring projects remain on programme, within budget and aligned with client expectations.
Your technical responsibilities will include reviewing and approving designs, calculations, specifications and reports, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, statutory requirements and sustainability objectives. You will also coordinate external consultants and contract staff, manage project resources and contribute to commercial management, invoicing and business development.
As a senior member of the team, you will build strong client relationships, support bids and presentations, and help develop a positive, high-performing studio culture through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
You will hold an MEng or equivalent Level 7 qualification and be a Chartered Engineer or hold equivalent professional status. You will have at least 8 years’ post-graduate experience in civil engineering design, with a strong understanding of UK design codes, procurement processes and construction methods.
You will have proven technical expertise in below-ground drainage, SuDS, external works and highways, alongside experience using Civil 3D and Causeway Flow. A confident and practical approach to developing viable engineering solutions is essential, balancing technical requirements with flood risk, safety, sustainability, cost and project constraints.
Strong leadership, communication and commercial skills are equally important, together with the confidence to oversee design work, support colleagues and contribute to the development of client relationships.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineer ready to take the next step in their career, lead exciting projects and help shape the future of a growing, design-led consultancy.
